Applesauce Pear Cake with Caramel Sauce

This cake is sure to be a crowd pleaser! Serve warm or chilled, drizzled with a delicious caramel sauce.

This recipe works for: Dessert

  • 1 Can Pear Halves in Juice – Mashed
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 chopped pecans
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purposed flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract
Caramel Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour pan.
  2. In large bowl, combine all cake ingredients; blend two minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl often.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pan.  Bake about 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  4. Cool 10 minutes in pan; invert onto cooling rack.
Caramel Sauce:
  1. Combine all sauce ingredients in heavy saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking occasionally.
  3. Cover and continue to boil for 1 minute.
  4. Uncover and boil for 3 to 4 minutes without stirring.
  5. Cool slightly before drizzling over warm cake.
  6. Serve cake warm or cooled with seasonal fruit and whipped cream.
